A Year of Changes...

New Moon in Cancer waxing to Full

On Wednesday, July 6, we had a New Moon at mid-Cancer. The New Moon in water is linked to instinct; and culminates in fulfillment. Aside from the eclipses, this looks like the most potent New Moon for the year-the final hurray for Saturn in Cancer--families, children and looking out for those in need. On the 16th, Saturn changes signs from Cancer to Leo. At the final degree, there are typically world events that resonate profoundly with the energy of the combination of the planet and the sign. Cancer represents security, which was shaken globally by the bombings in London. The full Moon across the Cancer-Capricorn axis takes place at the final degree of Cancer on the 21st. Cardinal signs represent fast action! Most of July we have squares, t-squares and grand squares in motion-action upon action. The full Moon at the end of a sign will be equally potent. Whatever was launched with the New on the 6th takes root and culminates fast. I watched a movie about Bobby Jones, the legendary golf player the other night. In it, he said I don't want fame! The sportswriter pointed out that it was too late to change his mind. That's the potency of this full Moon. It takes place with the Moon in Capricorn, which spells ACCOMPLISHMENT.

Mercury is Retrograde from July 22 to August 15, 2005

I have a separate write up on the phenomenon that takes place once every four months. Lately I have had emails from readers, who worry about this three-week period. These are merely times when we have the opportunity to go back and review, revise, reconsider and rethink. We do not stop living because of it. It is simply a reflection of the fact, that we tend to get ahead of ourselves, rush through tasks and forget to pay attention to details. During this time purchases that come with wiring are more likely to have flaws in them, thus it is prudent to postpone these when possible. Extended warranty is the second good option--at least it'll be fixed or replaced with someone else's expense.

Information goes missing or is delayed; therefore, we should make copies of our data. Purchases made during these times are more likely to go back to the store, so keep receipts handy. Launching new business during this time may not yield great results, so what's another three weeks. About 10 percent of people have Mercury retrograde natally, and for them this is often the time when the world works at their natural pace--a kind of a blessing.

Note this time around Mercury is opposite the illusive Neptune for a while. We could hear some whoppers during this time. So keep in mind--if it sounds too good to be true, it is! Leo can be quite the drama queen with many a tall tale to tell.

News

Mars returned to the same zodiacal position it held when I began working on my manuscript on Venus, and it is complete! I personally thought it might be a Venus cycle. However, the Universe always puts a twist on things--the time lapse turned out to be a full Venus cycle of 584 days from when I decided to write my book and 16-months from when I started penning the first chapter. My working title for the book is Covenants of Venus. I'll keep you posted on (if and) when it becomes a book. I will write about Mars in Taurus in the next little while--Mars moves in Taurus for a six-month stint starting the 27th of July. This repeats from 1973; it's been a while. Actually, the last time Mars spent the entire six months in Taurus was 1926.

Astrological Elements

LH sent an email wondering if Earth signs are less emotional than Water signs; have emotional responses more like Fire and Air. LH: "I was just wondering if Earth signs feel things as deeply as Water signs, and if they are as comfortable with it." In astrology, we use four elements--Water and Earth are feminine, Fire and Air are masculine. Each element feels strongly and deeply--however, those responses are somewhat different. Water is the element capable of eroding the surface of the rock, fluid enough to go around obstacles. Earth is steady and stable, and can withstand the erosion-it merely changes shape. If we look at this from the perspective of the Moon, which represents our instinctive responses, water is more likely to cry, feel the emotions of others and be empathetic. Earth would be likely to feel with you, and help support others around them and be supportive and offer a shoulder to lean on rather than one to cry upon.

Saturn

Saturn moves into Leo July 16 at 5:34 PDT. Saturn takes thirty years to travel through the Zodiac, thus spends an average of 2.5 years in a sign--there are variances as Saturn's orbit is not a perfect circle. Saturn will stay in Leo until September 2, 2007-6:47 PDT.

Transitions

Our solar system is heliocentric, but astrology as we view it, is geocentric. Let me explain the two concepts. All the planets revolve around the Sun, who is the controller of our Solar system-it's only STAR. That perspective is Helio (Sun)-centered. In terms, of astrology we observe everything from our perspective, which is from planet Earth (geocentric). In terms of life, everything revolves around us; we have no other perspective other than seeing life through our own eyes and our earth-bound perspective. Internally we feel planetary or energy shifts earlier. From the perspective of the Sun, Saturn is in Leo already--about two weeks, since June 29. Thus, we have been feeling what is about to change. We get a little preview. The number of people booking readings in the first week of July has been overwhelming, not just with me but with my colleagues as well. There is anxiety in the air.

The same applies to the first degree-a hint about what is to come. The headlines in the papers are quite revealing on the first day or two of a planet changing signs. When Saturn moved into Cancer in June 2003, there were several items about food, and its quality. Calls to end world hunger. The metal associated with Cancer is silver, which incidentally has increased in value over the past two years-from about USD4 to USD7. The prediction is that the value of gold will reach USD850 up from about USD445 at present over the next few years. Astrologically speaking, that makes sense as Leo (the Sun) rules gold whereas Cancer (the Moon) is linked to silver. The cost of our daily bread (not food just bread) has almost tripled since 2003, the Moon and Cancer, Virgo and Mercury are associated with food and nourishment.

Pay attention to those headlines, they reveal the themes to come. Leo is associated with grandeur, games, fun, sports, children and EGO-yes absolutely capitalized. Saturn is the taskmaster, in charge of obligations, responsibilities and limitations. In the past two years, the world has become extremely conscious of the threat to our security-in our homes, personal lives and our safety. We have been made acutely aware of our food sources, the toxins and new healthy bread has replaced the sliced white. Have you also noticed how we no longer need to cook; we merely need to pick up our dinner at the grocery store. Saturn has been in Cancer of home, emotional security and nutrition for the past two years. We have been forced to change our attitudes.

1975-77 babies have Saturn in Leo in their natal charts, and will be coming of age in the next two years. That's right, Saturn returns at age 30. In astrology, we call that coming of age-you need to assume responsibility for your own actions. To some it comes naturally and others find it the absolute pits. Saturn is the milestones marker. If you are celebrating or commiserating your 30th or 57th birthday this year, Saturn was in Leo the day you were born. We have a realizations regarding our mortality and accomplishments (or lack thereof) at age thirty, in our late fifties (57 is the norm) and the final one just prior to our 90th birthday if we live long enough. What is that realization--indeed, what have you done with your life thus far? Where to and how from here? Saturn represents the obligations we feel are ours, our responsibilities toward others and where we need to grow to be mature, productive members of society.

That statement--you are supposed to have fun in your life, may sound rather shallow to you with Saturn in Leo. Getting that creativity you have an abundance of expressed is a completely new story. Creative effort is 5 percent inspiration; the rest is pure unadulterated sweat. I can attest to that having completed a manuscript. I cannot even fathom what it would have been like to write it out in longhand.

This can be the year the 30-year olds decide to start a family, get married, buy that first home or begin saving for retirement. I remember as a child thinking how 30-year olds were ancient, now it sounds so young. That is what Saturn does to us-we learn to face our mortality- slowly over time.

Saturn is the ultimate taskmaster--you must do before you can have. The basic premise is that you need to earn all of your 'stripes'. What was that song in the 60's--it don't come easy… Having said that, on a global scale Leo represents those creative juices and children-anything that we attach our heart into! What does this mean through the signs or solar houses?

The basic premise is that Saturn brings you rewards or repercussions based on what you have sown over the past years-30 years is the full cycle. What can we expect to take place when Saturn travels through the zodiacal sign of Leo? Saturn in Leo will likely see the stock market change--a drop in values is being predicted; we might see hyperinflation, soaring price of oil, a boom or bust in real estate. Oh, wouldn't it just be dandy if we saw a new luxury tax?

A quick Astrology 101

Horoscopes use the Sun as the only qualifier. The Sun marks our year. It is easy to determine the position of the Sun. Those little versed in astrology know that we also have a Rising sign, which is determined by the hour of our birth. If you were born at sunrise, you have the same sign as your Sun rising. Two hours later, it would be the sign following your Sun sign, etc. It does get a little more complicated than that as the Sun only follows that rhythm at the equator-where the Sun sets and rises the same time year round. Those of us born at higher latitudes cannot rely on that 2-hour time change. For example at the 49th parallel Aries and Pisces rise for less than an hour, Scorpio, Sagittarius and Capricorn take almost three hours. On the order reports on line order page you can calculate your own chart to determine, what your rising sign is. Reading the sign of both your Sun and Ascendant can give you additional hints on what Saturn in Leo might bring into your life.

Some highlights for the Signs

Scorpio

For Scorpio Sun or Scorpio Ascendant--Leo is on the MC, the most elevated position in the sky. The Sun in the natural order reaches that position at the Summer solstice and stays up there for twelve long days. The word solstice means standing still. In terms of Sun signs, when we place the Sun at the horizon Leo holds the highest seat for Scorpio. It represents worldly achievements, status, kudos, fame and notoriety. Mata Hari, the infamous spy had Scorpio rising-thus Leo was at the top of her chart.

The Sun is the pump that pours life into our veins and our lives. Astrologers are talking about this being a great time to be a Scorpio. Why is that? Because when Saturn gets to be the highest planet in the chart, we are looking at reaping rewards for hard work--that is what Saturn represents, hard work and effort. We reap what we have sown. Might it be a plentiful harvest, well it depends on what you have sown. It brings about hard work, having to justify it all to the 'boss' by presenting the facts, but naturally, in a grand style, which is Leo's domain. Jupiter is the planet we assign to luck; currently Jupiter is in Libra and moving into Scorpio at the end of October. The next three months are about sharpening your tools, skills and talents. There are some wonderful indicators for success. However, resting on your laurels is not going to do the trick. Work it, work it and work it for the ultimate results and benefits. Jupiter brings the luck and can quickly take it away. Saturn on the other hand is about hard work; what we earn we get to keep. So buckle down, Scorpio, stay the course and do not waste any effort on talking yourself out of success. One of the richest men, Bill Gates, has a Scorpio Sun and Saturn is in his second house for two years-financial limitations, not likely rather he has become a huge, public benefactor donating money to help the impoverished.

Aries

For Aries Leo is the fifth solar house, for Aries rising the same. This is the universal chart or the flat wheel. You might find yourself engrossed in the affairs of your children-so many obligations and responsibilities. It can be a challenging time with kids. Alternately, those intimate romantic relationships can be rather exacting. You could be romancing the stone or finding that you need to make a choice. To settle down or not to settle down that is the question. None of these, well we could be looking at real estate investments, gambling and the luck of the draw. This can be a great time for giving life to creative projects, it doesn't always equate to having actual children, but it can.

Taurus

For Taurus Sun or Ascendant, Saturn takes up residency in the part of the chart that represents the home and family. At the same time, Mars moves into Taurus for an exceptional six-month stint. The last time that took place is 1973. So, in addition to family you are focused on you. If there are chronic health problems, now is the time to get real with it. That home is about to be made more beautiful, grander and maybe plans of renovations in the future are starting to pop in your head. Saturn tends to increase our obligations, limit or slow down progress--sustained growth. Looking after family, aging parents or having to restructure your life to accommodate others can be the long-term themes.

Gemini

Gemini Sun or Ascendant, Saturn moves into the area of daily activities. Your daily schedules or setting is about to change-new neighbours or new groups come into your life. New hobbies or collaborative partnerships stir the imagination. Who knows what that can become in the course of the next two years? You might decide to pen a novel or run the PTA at your kid's school. Enter local politics or build new rapport within your community. Transportation woes might plague your resources and patience. You might decide that you need to go back to school and learn new things, take up acting or finally learn to manage your time.

Cancer

Money, values, priorities and time are the concepts that need to be restructured. Working hard for your money, unless you are one of the lucky ones who know how to make money work hard for you. This can mark the time when your spouse returns to work or where joint resources need to be revamped. That concept of learning to budget might become something to consider seriously. You might find that you have overextended your resources, taken on far too many obligations and having to learn to manage your time more effectively.

Leo

Over the next two years, Saturn will meet up with your Sun. The Sun is your vitality, ego, the engine that drives your life. This can force you to become more responsible and mark a time when your vitality is low. It's important to ensure that you are looking after your own well-being. The first few days in the 2-year cycle give you a preview--the hints are not in cat size letters--so pay attention. Saturn rules bones; knees and ankles in particular, are you getting enough calcium? Does your back keep going out of alignment? Do you need to visit the chiropractor or simply think that it will go away on its own? Saturn represents both limitations and rewards for effort--are you doing your best or merely coasting?

Virgo

It is an end of a cycle--time to take stock. We learn from life only once we acknowledge those lessons. Energy levels can fluctuate significantly during this year. On an advisory note, it is important to acknowledge your body, your well-being during this time (yes two years). Any chronic health issues can be let to go on any longer. Hospitals, institutions and isolation can factor in prominently in your life. It is the time to take note of those dreams, which can be rather prophetic. Juicy secrets may come your way; spreading these can cause a rather instantaneous backlash. We all have fears, doubts and irrational notions. We mostly try our best to push these away. The next two years are a perfect time to address these.

Libra

Chance meetings, helpful people and just a nice feeling the 'heavens' are smiling upon you. Remember that when you voice what you need, even if nobody is watching, you are one-step closer to achieving it. Surprising offers, profitable partnerships and perhaps making money from a hobby, can make you feel on top of the world. It's a good time to review those five-year plans, and check if what you are currently doing and being is going to take you there. This can be a time, when cultivated friendships mature into something deeper. Often it is also the time, when friendships fade away--nothing in common any longer.

Sagittarius

Back to school, changing opinions and convictions--it's a big world out there to explore. New horizons and expansion of your reality and the quest for the 'holy grail' can become pronounced themes now. Perhaps it is something much more mundane, like in-laws become a part of your everyday life. Perhaps your 'hobby' is maturing into a marketable skill. To be doing what you love is bliss. It could be the time to get real with religion, philosophy or learning some new concepts. Your beliefs and convictions are likely to be questioned over the next two years.

Capricorn

You may find yourself relying on the resources or support of others. Funds may be more limited and potential for insurance claims is higher. Children's education or moving out can be a source of extra expenditure. You might be forced to live in 'the construction zone' with constant, ongoing restructuring of the home. Alternately, your partner's income might be somehow delayed--perhaps working on a project with payment pending completion. These can be the years, when we have to face mortality, not necessarily our own but aging parents or dear friends faced with illness. Restructuring, renovating or revamping the bathrooms, whole house, budgets, and retirement plans are subjects that will remain a current affair for a quite a while. For some this can be a serious life-style change, when it's time we cannot argue or avoid. Serious discussions with your significant other will help in taking your relationship onto a better level.

Aquarius

Saturn is going to park itself in the area of your solar chart that represents others. Whose responsibility is it anyway? With Saturn opposite your Sun, for a few months over the next two years, you may find that your vitality, energy and desire to go after things are diminished. It's time to get serious about contracts, agreements and learn to be more accommodating. Practice saying, "what else can I do for YOU. Old astrology textbooks talk about this being the time when we decide to get married--perhaps it could be so. Well, you'll become older and wiser over the course of the next two years.

Pisces

Could you do overtime, can you help me out, all these requests--always say yes. It's a great time to 'strut' your stuff, show your skills, and be recognized. Heads up at work and at home-make safety your number one priority. You'll be working hard over the next two years. What is the pay-off--well, in 2006 Jupiter, the planet of good luck and fortune, is sitting atop of your chart. This is a good thing. It tends to bring rewards, extra money and similar perks. Whatever is set in motion over the next two years is part of a ten-year plan.
