The Harmonic Concordance

Lunar Full Moon Eclipse, November 8, 2003
By Evolutionary Astrologer
ROSE MARCUS

There is a great deal of interest (and hype) stirring now over the upcoming full moon Lunar Eclipse of Nov. 8, 2003 (5:13 pm PDT Vancouver, B.C. 16'13" Taurus/Scorpio). This particular eclipse energizes a Star of David Pattern, a six-pointed sextile configuration with two grand trines, one in the element of water (Sun, Mars and Saturn) and one in earth (Moon, Jupiter and Chiron). The south node at 20'27" Scorpio and the north node at 20'27" Taurus are also part of this configuration by wide aspect.

As a planetary pattern, a Star of David Pattern is not particularly dynamic (action producing) influence. The sextile aspect in astrology is considered a minor aspect and is interpreted as holding creative potential or opportunity. Grand trines are planetary patterns of synthesis and harmony. Likened to the sextile (although considered a major, not minor aspect) are not dynamic in terms of action. Rather, when activated (by other planets) they tend to be facilitating - which can be positive or not depending on the rest of the planetary influences.

What makes this date noteworthy are the contributions of Uranus, which turns from retrograde to direct motion early in the morning and Mars, which surpasses the degree at which it started into retrograde.

Planet Uranus represents a liberating and awakening influence. When a planet changes direction, it's usual travel is slowed (referred to as "station"). Flexibility is key while Uranus disrupts the normal flow and kick starts a new orientation (until Nov. 11th most likely). At a key transition point Nov. 8, this planetary influence has an ongoing significant effect to the end of the year on those born late or early in the astrological month (especially Taurus, Scorpio and Leo people). Always the planet of surprise you never quite know what you'll get. Uranus can be exhilarating and electrifying, or it can produce shock and extremity.

We cannot under estimate the re-energizing of Mars in Pisces as it surpasses a significant astrological marker (that of it's starting retrograde degree). Having reached a saturation point, there will be an unleashing or release of whatever has been brewing beneath the surface. Mars in Pisces can "swim" either way. This planetary influence has great potential for destruction - from fires to floods as we have recently witnessed - and it has great potential for creative and spiritual unfolding. Mars will continue in Pisces through mid December, making square aspect to Pluto, Nov. 26 & 27 (highly potent dates - again with constructive or destructive capacity).

A full moon brings heightened visibility and illumination. It is a pinnacle time of polarization leading to intensification, maximization, culmination and/or fruition (plus and minus). Arrival points are re-evaluated. We are enriched and inspired, or confronted and challenged by experience.

Solar eclipses are generally considered to be more eventful/produce more external or environmental impact, where lunar eclipses are considered to produce intensification on the emotional or internalized planes - when events occur they reflect the synchronicity of what is occurring internally or are the result of our emotional buildup.

In ancient times (and perhaps no different today), eclipses portended the birth or death of royalty/those of prominence and disasters such as war and famines, etc. The Taurus/Scorpio axis of this November 8 eclipse, represents survival issues at all levels - material, biological, physical, sexual, emotional, spiritual. This axis also represents the conflict between the sacred and the profane - our "gods" of choice. What we perceive (Scorpio) to be of value (Taurus) will be what we deem to be essential to our survival. The issue? The price and the sacrifice. What lives? What dies?
(As we know the pope is in failing health, it would not be a stretch to link the passing of the Pope around this time frame to this eclipse. Should this happen, it could be viewed as a symbolic reflection of the collective consciousness mobilized toward birthing a new image/persona for the face of established religion. Considering the Star of David sextiles signify "creative opportunity", it would seem the time is quite opportune for the church to create a new identity/resurrect itself.)

The ancients also thought the eclipses were times when fissures occurred between the realms that would allow for mere mortals to commune with the gods. Just by the nature of the emails and information circulating, it seems this particular eclipse is already being infused with much anticipation as some kind of momentous spiritual awakening or threshold. In itself, this is a wonderfully hopeful statement regarding our collective attunement.

Will this Star of David pattern soften the usually extreme experiences of the full moon? The trine in element of water can indeed be "harmonic". (The water element of course represents the emotional and spiritual realms). The transiting Pisces moon Nov. 3 may start to activate this water trine. Mars will make exact trine to Saturn, Nov. 13 to 15. (a constructive, grounding or anchoring influence).

This eclipse (the last total eclipse of it's series) is gaining notoriety as the "Harmonic Concordance". On my website I have posted a very lengthy email I received for your information and review on what meaning others are attaching to this event.

(Can't help but make a personal comment here: Even we astrologers are quite guilty of anticipation build up. We wait for aspects to activate our charts, anxiously waiting for that exceptional moment to occur and to generate/create for us. While the upcoming transits will indeed energize our lives, don't wait for "it" - it's already happening. Each and every moment is an entire universe of potential waiting to be tapped.)

Eclipses demarcate and energize a cycle of experience. Generally they are considered effective over a 3 to 6 month period. The measurement of the actual time of the eclipse is also used to indicate the duration of its influence in our lives. Lasting for 24 minutes, 32 seconds, and relating to the hours as months theory, it can be suggested that this eclipse can have highest impact for one (short) month. Watch forward to see if the events of the Leo/Aquarius full moon of February 5, 2004 tie into to your experience of the Harmonic Concordance November 8 eclipse.

In her book "Predictive Astrology, The Eagle and the Lark", Bernadette Brady has offered the following interpretation for this particular Saros Series:

"A very joyful, happy family of eclipses. Sense of good news, falling in love, a peak experience that is joyful in some way. Benefits that appear under this eclipse series can be expected to continue well after the eclipse has passed."

This particular eclipse, from Saros Series S126 (which began at 22 degrees of Cancer), is the last total eclipse of it's series. Where ever the eclipse path travels is where it will be strongest. Of noteworthy mention this eclipse will run through Europe, the middle east, (Jordan and Jerusalem) and Africa. It will be most effective on a personal chart if the eclipse falls near a natal planet. More information on the astronomy of the eclipse and various other articles may be found on my website.
