Horary astrology answers specific questions from a chart cast for the date, time and place the question was received.
I am very popular with my son because I am a horary astrologer and have granted him free lifetime privileges. It helps to remember that, considering who will eventually put you in the nursing home. In this case, my son, David, wanted to investigate a business offer. At first, he thought it sounded pretty good. As things developed, he had some doubts. Following is his question and the chart interpretation.

The ascendant always rules the person asking the question. When the last three degrees of a sign is rising, the rule is that there is something "too late" about the matter. It is called a non-radical ascendant and in times past was considered a stricture and "not fit to be read." Most astrologers do go ahead now and render a judgment. The point to remember is that the judgment takes into account the so-called stricture. Other factors in this chart are so negative that I interpreted this ascendant to mean that this proposition is over before it ever gets started.
The planets that rule the ascendant are the querent's significators. In this case, the Moon is the significator. The Moon is in the via combust way. That is a section of the zodiac from 15 degrees Libra to 15 degrees Scorpio. I call it the earthquake zone. Not every horary astrologer believes this has validity. Barbara Watters, one of the great horary astrologers, tried to ignore the via combust way, but was forced to reconsider it, calling it similar in action to a Mars-Uranus conjunction. I have found that it can be very disruptive, producing unexpected turns of events.
I concluded from the Moon's condition that it was very unlikely that this business proposition would turn out as described by the company representatives. It is further debilitated by its close application to a conjunction with the south node. I did not like its separating square to Saturn, considering that Saturn is always going to rule businesses.
For the business, use the Tenth House to rule it. Mercury is applying to a square to Neptune retrograde. When one planet is retrograde and the other direct, that is called mutual application. Take a look. They are moving into each other's arms. The problem here is that when Mercury and Neptune retrograde are in a challenging aspect you want to think about misrepresentation ("lying" is such a nasty word). There were two men who talked to David and are the partners in the business. One of the men is his friend and is trustworthy. The other partner is the one that David did not trust. The chart bears out these conclusions.
The Eleventh House is his friend. The Sun is in the degree of a fixed star, the Pleiades, known as the weeping sisters. It means that there will be something to cry about. I predict that this business will not be successful and his friend will indeed have something to cry about. Venus trine Neptune retrograde probably indicates that he does not yet see the problems with the other partner.
The other partner is ruled by the Seventh House. Even though there are some favorable aspects sprinkled around the wheel, there are too many problems to give a positive answer. Any question about business that features a debilitated Moon square to Saturn will ordinarily be enough to make me very skeptical of a good outcome. The Moon's last aspect is one indicator of how the matter ends. When the Moon's last aspect is to a retrograde planet-even if it is a sextile-there will usually be something to regret. Pluto is a big offender when it is retrograde. It rules complications compounded.
Further developments bore out the over inflated, pie-in-the-sky representations of the financial potential of the business proposition. The chart was right when it indicated that this would be over before it ever got started.
