QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Horary astrology answers specific questions from a chart cast for the date, time and place the question was received.

One of my clients called to ask a question that concerned the fate of a friend of hers. The woman in question is a Mexican citizen who lived in the United States with her husband and children. There was a situation in regard to the handling of some company funds that resulted in embezzlement charges against the woman. I won't go into the details except to say that the woman claimed that it was a misunderstanding and my client believes her friend was innocent of the charges. She worked for a government agency. Her lawyer advised her to plead guilty because he said she could never win against the government. She did and was sentenced to three years in prison. She was to be released soon and that prompted my client's question.

Client asks: Will my friend Maria be deported?

The ascendant always rules the person asking the question. However, we are not interested in the querent in this case; we are only interested in the friend, Maria. The client named the relationship in the question, so we look to the Eleventh House of friends. There are no planets there, so Venus ruling the Eleventh House is the significator by itself. We always use the Moon to co-rule in every chart, however.
The Squares tell the Tale

If Maria is going to be deported after she is released we need to see a lot of bad aspects, usually squares indicate this level of troubles. Venus is angular in the Tenth House. The Tenth House is action by the government. The first thing I noticed was the square from Venus to Pluto, also angular. That is bad, I can tell you. If that doesn't send a chill down your spine, take a look at the Moon aspects. The Moon squares in turn Jupiter, Mars, the Sun, Venus and ends with a conjunction to Mercury retrograde. There is a nasty conjunction to Pluto as the Moon travels through its sign. There is no use looking any further for a saving grace. Poor Maria, justified or not, has more trouble ahead and will be deported.

How do we know that her troubles involve deportation? Maybe the chart is just warning her that her life will not be easy in other ways. No, that isn't right. The chart knows only what you tell it. When the question is about deportation, deportation it is if the chart is bad enough. There are some confirming indications in that government action is indicated.

It Gets Worse

Since this is a column for students of horary astrology we will analyze some other features of this chart even though we know the answer. Venus is weak here. It is combust the Sun, or within five degrees of that body. It is revealing to turn this chart and read the Eleventh House as Maria's First House. That makes the original Tenth House Maria's Twelfth House of sorrow.

The Moon's North node is in 24 degrees Taurus, the degree of the fixed star Caput Algol. This is a very nasty degree meaning "you lost your head." It is interesting that the North node is in Maria's Ninth House of her lawyer. It is exactly squaring Mercury retrograde. In this column I have said before that planets in the same degree as the Nodes indicate a catastrophe however great or small. The square and nodal degree indicate that this was a major catastrophe. Couldn't we say that the lawyer was "out of his mind" in advising her to plead guilty? She got bad advice.

The nodal degree of 24 degrees is also on the Second and Eighth Houses of the chart. If we turn the chart, those houses are Maria's Fourth and Tenth Houses. Here comes the government taking her from her home. Maria's ruler Venus is exactly quincunx (150 degrees) the Part of Fortune in HER Fifth House. Is this the separation from her children?

A Little Sliver of Hope?

I did not relish delivering this answer to my client. I could not hold out any hope as to the deportation question. I tried to find something to hang onto in the future. I am wondering if Mercury in the Tenth House will give her an opportunity to appeal to the government and it will reconsider the decision. Mercury has dignity in Virgo and its retrograde condition often indicates a change of mind and another chance. Also it is the last aspect the Moon makes. That always tells us something about how the matter will end. Mercury was stationary direct at 12 degrees. It went retrograde over her ruler Venus and will cross over it again by direct motion. Is that symbolic of another chance or just my wishful thinking?

Not Always Fun to be Right

I e-mailed my client on October 21, 2003 to inquire about Maria's fate. This is her reply on October 23:

"Maria was sent back to Mexico yesterday. I think the weekly plane with people being deported leaves the Minneapolis airport some time in the afternoon. There will be a divorce and her two young children will remain in the United States. She will be left at the border with no papers and no money. Thank you for asking about Maria. The chart was right."
