QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Horary astrology answers specific questions from a chart cast for the date, time and place the question was received.
Sometimes Things Are Over Before They Start!
A woman client called to ask about the advisability of hiring two young women for her housekeepers. My client lives in an upscale neighborhood in a big house full of many possessions, plants and the like. She is also a Capricorn and very meticulous about her house.
The question is: Should I hire Laura and Kathy as my housekeepers?

This is a chart to illustrate that in some cases the answer jumps right out at you. It is not always necessary to delve into endless complexities. In fact, many charts can be read in short order. If you do horary charts, don't try to get more information than you need. It isn't really necessary to know if the person has red hair and drives a Buick. I think it is a good habit to work on the lean and mean side. Learn what the most important indicators are, get your answer and move on to the next one. This chart is a case in point.
First of all, the ascendant is in 29 degrees of Scorpio. That is considered a "too late" degree according to horary rules. You may not know why it is too late or what is too late, but you always tell the client, "There is something too late about this situation."
Twenty-nine degrees Scorpio puts 29 degrees Taurus on the Seventh House. That is the degree of the Pleiades, a fixed star that means there will be something to cry about in the matter. I noted that even though the Seventh House is not the main rulership of employees, I was suspicious.
The ascendant always rules the one asking the question. The planets that rule the ascendant are her significators. Here we have Pluto and Mars that rule Scorpio and Jupiter that rules the intercepted sign. Next we need to identify the house or houses that rule the persons inquired about. Since this is a question about hiring an employee, it is the Sixth House that is of interest. The North Node is the only occupant of the Sixth House and Venus, ruler of Taurus, is the potential housekeepers' significator.
The only aspect between significators is a separating sextile between Venus to Pluto. I was initially excited about the housekeepers when I noticed that Venus is in 22 degrees Libra, the degree of the great benefic fixed star, Spica. My confidence in a positive answer was quickly dashed however. There is a rule in horary astrology that any planets in the same degree as the Moon's nodes indicates catastrophe, however great or small. It makes no difference what sign the planet is in, it is just the degree that counts. Not only is Venus in the degree of the nodes, so is the Moon.
The chart puzzled me. What did the late ascendant mean? Venus indicated that the housekeepers were exceptionally good, yet some sort of catastrophe is also promised. Was there going to be something to cry about? This is where the astrologer must just accept each piece and report it to the client. I have found that the answer will always make sense when the situation unfolds.
Even though the Moon ended with a trine to Mercury in Virgo, I advised against hiring the two housekeepers. In questions about employees I also look at the natural rulers of the Sixth House. Mercury is strong here in the sign it rules and angular. The other testimony in the chart overpowered the positive Mercury aspect.
What happened? The housekeepers decided that the house was too much for them
to handle and did not want the job. The "too late" ascendant was
saying that it was over before it even started.
