Horary Astrology

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Horary astrology answers specific questions from a chart cast for the date, time and place the question was received.

This time the horary question was posed by my long-time client, Helen. Helen stables 20 horses and aspires to train and race a big winner. I have read the charts of her horses over many years and they have turned out to be surprisingly accurate. The horses' birth charts have identified the animals that are prone to injury, the ones that are bad tempered and hard to train, and the real sweethearts. I also advise her as to the best times to transfer the horses when that entails a long trip of several days. She forgot to check with me on one occasion and wouldn't you know the truck started out on the day of a nasty eclipse. There were problems and she almost lost the horse. It ended up in a veterinary clinic in a distant state. She's a believer!

The question she asked this time concerns a well-known horse trainer in a distant state. Helen's latest equine acquisition has a very good pedigree including famous racehorse winners in his bloodline. Before she purchased him, I pointed out in his birth chart that there were potential ankle and foot problems. A Mars square Saturn aspect indicated that the horse was prone to serious injuries. When she got the horse to her stable, her vet discovered that the horse had a somewhat deformed foot and ankle. Apparently this does not rule out training him, but he would require some special handling. She is asking about a particular trainer who is known for bringing along horses that others have turned away. Some of the rejects have gone on to be big winners. I will call the trainer Jane Doe.

Helen asks: At some appropriate time, should I use Jane Doe to train Sunny?

Gemini is the rising sign. It is in early degrees. The first three degrees rising is considered "too early for now" degrees. Sometimes it takes some judgment as to just what is "too early" but in any case, there is always something premature about the matter at hand. In this case it was fairly obvious. The horse is not old enough yet to send to a trainer.

The planet that rules the rising sign always rules the person asking the question. Mercury is Helen's significator in this chart. It is in the Tenth House with Neptune. Both Mercury and Neptune are in square aspect to Mars and the Nodes. Neptune is clouding Mercury's judgment. She is very likely expecting too much or looking through rose-colored glasses. She needs more information.

The Sixth House rules the trainer. Mercury's square to the Nodes in that house is especially negative. Mercury also rules the Second House. The Nodes in Taurus and Scorpio-both money signs-indicate that the cost may be prohibitive. Venus rules Libra on the cusp of the Sixth House. If we consider that Venus also rules money, the square to Saturn retrograde in the sign of its detriment in the Second House doubly emphasizes the drain on resources. The fact that Venus also is one of the significators that rules the trainer herself, the square to Saturn is a strong negative indicator all by itself.

Analyzing the Sixth House further, Scorpio is intercepted. Interceptions indicate interference, not necessarily prevention. The planets that rule the intercepted signs often show underlying causes and the source of problems. Mars co-rules Scorpio. It is intercepted. Since Mars is in the Twelfth House that rules horses, I am wondering if I can use my imagination and conclude that the horse is prone to injury and problems as its birth chart suggests. (Mars is in the horse's natal Twelfth House also.) Mars is in mutual reception with Venus; they are each in the other's sign that they rule. Mutual receptions can show a way out of the situation.

Mutual receptions allow us to move the two planets into their own signs that they rule. If Venus goes to six degrees Taurus, it is intercepted in the Twelfth House and squares Mercury and Neptune. The way out is no solution in this case. So lets take a look at Pluto, the other ruler of Scorpio. I don't like the square to Jupiter retrograde. Pluto is in the sign that rules horses, Sagittarius. Jupiter rules the Eighth House and Pluto is close enough to be an influence in the next following house. Do we see my client going into debt to work with this trainer?

The Moon is in Scorpio in the Sixth House. It is void-of-course. That means that it makes no exact APPLYING major Ptolemaic aspects (conjunction, sextile, square, trine or opposition) as it moves degree by degree to the end of the sign. Some astrologers believe that when the Moon is void-of-course that nothing ever comes of the matter. That is often true, but I have charts to prove that it is not always true. The horary astrologer is well advised to study the entire chart as we did here. If there is powerful positive testimony and everything lines up just right, the void Moon can act. However, always be very aware when you are dealing with the void-of-course Moon. It always has a special meaning. Even when it does bring things together, there is usually something wrong with the picture when all is said and done.

In this chart, the client is advised that the void-of-course Moon cannot be overcome. Furthermore, the Moon is not well placed in Scorpio, the sign of its fall. Adding to all of that is its placement in an intercepted sign. This is a very negative indicator. This raises some suspicions that there are some things about the trainer that are not quite on the up and up. The Moon's last separating aspect was a square to the Sun. It makes me question whether the trainer is now just trading on her previous reputation and really won't deliver what she promises at this time.

Yes, there are some scattered positive aspects. It simply means that most situations are not entirely evil. The negative aspects win the day, however. Regardless of whether the problem lies with the trainer or whether it lies with Sunny's physical problems, the client should not use this trainer for her horse.
