Horary Astrology

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Horary astrology answers specific questions from a chart cast for the date, time and place the question was received.

Is the astrologer ever wrong?

No astrologer, of course, is always right. If we WERE always right, we would have to charge a very hefty fee. Worse than that, we would be kidnapped by foreign agents who would force us to read charts that revealed all sorts of secret information inimical to our national interests.

Seriously, here is a chart that demonstrates just how tricky this business of horary astrology can be sometimes.

This client works for a bank. His job was eliminated and he wanted to know if management would make good on its promise to rehire him in a different position.

Man asks: Will I continue working at the bank? Open chart in a new window. Remember that the little pillow looking icon, which appaears in the lower right hand corner enlarges the image if you are using IE to browse the net.

Moon's applying aspects: trine Saturn, square Venus, trine Mars, parallel Pluto, parallel Mars, parallel Jupiter, square Neptune, square Sun, contra-parallel Sun, parallel Neptune, contra-parallel Venus, square Jupiter

The First House always rules the person asking the question. The planets in and ruling the First House are his significators. Here Sagittarius is rising making Jupiter his significator along with Pluto retrograde in the First House.

Locate the significators and analyze the parts of the chart to be judged step by step. Jupiter is in the Eighth House, not particularly fortunate. Planets that are in the same degree as the Moon's nodes indicate a catastrophe, however great or small. How do we know just how big the catastrophe is? Here, Jupiter is square to the nodes in fixed signs. If you know anything about astrology, you will realize that this is a big catastrophe.

Next, we will take note of Pluto retrograde in the First House. Pluto rules complications and when it is retrograde it is complications compounded. Retrograde planets also cause delays. I have found that Pluto retrograde in the First House is very hard to overcome. The rest of the chart must be very strong on the positive side to outweigh its influence.

The Tenth House rules the job at the bank. The first three degrees of any sign are called "too early degrees." There is always something immature or premature about the matter. This is something I should have paid more attention to! Read on.

Venus is the planetary ruler of the Tenth House, Venus is the ruler of money and banking. Venus finds its way into the Eighth House also. It is in its detriment by house. Also, Venus is very close to the Sun and that is considered to "burn up" its effectiveness. The two primary rulers are identified. The querent (the one who asks the question) and the job are ruled by Jupiter and Venus respectively. In order to bring the matter together, there must be some aspects between the principal rulers. There is no aspect between Venus and Jupiter so we must move on to search for anything else in the chart that can save this poor fellow's position.

If Venus aspected Pluto, that would bring the First and Tenth House rulers together. Even though these two planets are mutually applying to a trine, I consider the orb of nine degrees too great to perfect the matter.

The Moon has a special role in every horary chart. Horary astrology is very lunar centered. It is always the co-ruler of the querent. The Moon is not happy at all in Scorpio, the sign of its fall. The Moon also describes the situation and in Scorpio, things are not always on the up and up. The Moon makes a lot of aspects before ending with a square to Jupiter. Many aspects mean that much will happen before all is said and done. The Moon makes contra-parallels to both Jupiter and Venus before ending with its fatal square to Jupiter.

The 30 degrees between 15 degrees Libra and 15 degrees Scorpio is known in horaryland as the via combust way. It is a very bumpy ride through this part of the zodiac. Any planets there are subject to unpredictable and disruptive situations and circumstances.

All in all, I judged that the bank would not rehire the client. They did, however, find another position for him and I was left staring at the ceiling all night wondering how I could be wrong. I must have studied that chart over and over again a dozen times.

That is not the end of this story. The bank eliminated his position three times in one year. He promised himself that if it happened again he would leave the bank for good. On February 19, 2004, they struck again and he resigned. Transiting Sun was in zero Pisces and transiting Uranus was in two degrees Pisces at that time. Note the place this hits in the horary chart. Uranus has almost exactly returned to its original position.

It should be obvious from this chart that the job at the bank was doomed. It was just "too early" with two degrees on the midheaven. Then there is the matter of Pluto in the First House. It had to delay, repeat and complicate in order to express its full retrograde symbolism.

So is the astrologer ever wrong? Yes…but not for long!
