Horary astrology answers specific questions from a chart cast for the date, time and place the question was received.
A woman called to ask me a question about the advisability of buying a condominium for a quick resale. She, of course, wanted to make a profit from this transaction. After I had noted down the necessary data to construct the chart, the woman asked me what I thought about the Moon squaring Mars in the chart. It took me a moment to regain my wits after speculating how this woman knew that the Moon squared Mars before I ever erected the chart!
Oh, oh, red flags. "Have you already asked yourself this question and made a chart?" I asked. As it turned out, that is exactly what she had done. I scrapped the data I had just recorded and instead took the time, date and place she asked her question. You can only ask a question once. In previous columns, I have made the point that I always use my location when calculating the chart. In this case, I am using the client's location, which is Hollywood, Florida. She asked the question as an astrologer; we use her location. She just wanted me to help her read the chart already cast.

The Fourth House rules the property. Libra is rising which makes her significator Venus. Venus is in the same degree as the Moon's nodes, which is an indication of catastrophe. To make matters worse, Venus is square Neptune in the property Fourth House. The woman has fantasies that are not grounded in reality. This is an aspect of deluding oneself.
There are some fairly decent aspects in this chart, but the ones that are negative are very powerful. The positive signs are probably simply saying that the property is desirable. Whether it can be turned over quickly for a profit is the question, however. The Moon is square to Mars in the Eighth House. Mars rules the Seventh House of potential buyers and the Eighth House is the money from them. Mars cuts the profits and gives trouble in selling.
The Fifth House can be legitimately examined because it is the Second House to the Fourth, which means it is specifically money from the property. Even though there are mixed aspects, I was concerned about the mutually applying opposition to Jupiter.
All told, I had to tell the woman that she should not buy the condo. The problem when dealing with people who want to buy a property is that they very often behave the way we do when we have met a new love interest. We suffer from temporary insanity as the stars in our eyes blind us to anything negative. Clients rhapsodize euphorically when they have fallen in love with a property. I force myself to stay totally focused on the chart itself.
Horary astrology can work its magic spell. It has a way of offering a more balanced perspective. Read on to the letter the woman sent to me after I gave her the answer.
"Thank you for the quick response. Now that I have stopped to look at the situation again, I see lots of red flags that I did not notice before. There are a lot of condos on the market, a large market of South Americans buying condos in South Florida for quick resale and profit and over half the units in the building are not sold yet. Thanks to you I feel we've done the right thing."
