Horary Astrology

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Horary astrology answers specific questions from a chart cast for the date, time and place the question was received.

BE CAREFUL JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS

You have all heard that there is an exception to every rule. The rules of Horary astrology are no exception to that rule. One of the factors to consider in any Horary chart is the aspects the Moon applies to all the way to the end of the sign it is in. When the Moon makes its last aspect, it goes void-of-course. It is not active again until it enters the next sign. Some astrologers will say that nothing can come of a matter when asked about during a void-of-course Moon. Some older astrology books suggest that the astrologer demur from reading such charts at all.

It is important when evaluating any Horary chart to always look at everything. Do not jump to conclusions even when the Moon is void. This month's chart is a case in point.

Woman asks: Should I sell my house?

This client had not thought about selling her house until a woman came to her door and out of the blue offered to buy her house. My client thought this might be a good opportunity to relocate to an area that was more conducive to some business interests she wanted to develop. Yet she had made friends and was involved in community projects where she was presently living.

The rising sign rules the person asking the question and we always start there. Here we see that Scorpio is rising and gives two significators, the client's rulers, Pluto and Mars. The Fourth House rules her house and the Seventh House rules the other woman who made the offer. Always identify all the houses that pertain to the question and limit your interest to only those houses. We aren't dealing with a natal chart. The usual procedure is to then check the aspects, or absence of same, between the rulers. What do we do about the void-of-course Moon if it means either that we do not read the chart at all or simply conclude that nothing ever comes of a void Moon?
Lets take a look at the chart and see what it has to say about it. Venus rules the woman who made the offer (Seventh House). It is sextile Jupiter that rules the property. That is too much to overlook. That is a powerful indicator of this deal coming together. Also, when Pisces is on the IC, that is an unfortunate indicator. In Horary astrology, the twelfth sign indicates the negative things we associate with the Twelfth House. There is some problem with this property. Jupiter has dignity in an angular house but is in its detriment by sign, further indicating a problem.

The Tenth House rules the value and price of any property. Beware when Mars is there. It cuts the price. Jupiter in an angle means that the problems are out in the open and obvious. I must admit to harboring some suspicions that hidden problems would crop up in the future. The Third House is the Twelfth House to the property. Every house has its Twelfth House, which is the preceding house. Uranus retrograde is there is the degree of the Moon's Nodes, indicating a problem of some magnitude. Who likes sneaky Neptune retrograde hiding in a cadent house?

I told the woman that her house has some obvious problems and maybe some not so obvious problems. I advised her that she would have to cut the price. I told her to "sell the house if you can." I was hedging my bets a little in regard to that void-of-course Moon. Then I prayed that this deal did not fall through. My prayers were answered. The house needed some repairs so the price was lowered by $1500 to accommodate that. The house was a quick sale. My client was actually relieved to get rid of the house because of the work and expense of repairing it.

Some readers may notice that the fixed star Caput Algol rules the Seventh House, 24 degrees Taurus. It refers to "losing your head." I wondered in what way the buyer had lost her head. She had sold an investment and needed to reinvest quickly in order to save a big tax bite. The time limit was running out so she was anxious to close a deal quickly.

A void-of-course Moon does not always mean that a matter comes to nothing. Granted, it often does. This case proves the old saying once again that there is an exception to every rule.
