Horary astrology answers specific questions from a chart cast for the date, time and place the question was received.
Sometimes my clients ask horary questions via e-mail. That is not a good idea. Once I read the question, I have to use that time and date for the chart. This may really short-change my client. If you want to ask your astrologer a horary question, you are well advised to call and discuss your question in person. One of the skills of the horary astrologer is to help you frame the question. For my clients in other countries, I make an exception. Sometimes they don't figure out what time it is here and I don't like taking questions as the rooster is crowing. As a matter of fact, you guys on the East Coast need to remember that I am three hours earlier than you. No more five AM calls, okay?
Another question comes up from time to time. Clients who are astrologers sometimes tell me they do not want to ask the question at a particular time because Mercury is retrograde or the Moon is void-of-course. This is so foolish. Clients who do this are trying to manipulate the answer so that it won't be negative. Do you want an accurate answer or don't you? Also, there are no technical reasons not to ask a question AT ANY TIME. The universe figures it out. Now on to this month's chart.
Woman asks: Will I be able to stay in contact with Roger?

This client had recently left a job where she was in daily contact with Roger. She said she wanted to stay in contact with him after she no longer worked there. What house are we going to use for Roger? Sometimes the chart itself will tell you. I wanted to use the Seventh House as that simply rules the "other person." Gemini is rising in this chart. Its ruler, Mercury, is her significator and there it is in the Seventh House. It is retrograde and running into Pluto's arms in a close conjunction. When two planets are moving toward each other because one is direct as is the case here that is called mutual application. They want to come together.
The Moon is always the client's co-ruler in every chart. The Moon is allowed all the major aspects it will make as it progresses through the sign it is in. This means that the Moon will apply to some favorable aspects but for now we want to know if her rulers make aspects with his ruler(s). In this case, it does. First let's take note that the Moon is in the Fifth House of love, courtship and romance. Does this tell the astrologer what she has on her mind? She was quite business-like as she spoke to me. One could get the impression that this was "Oh, I just want to be friends because he is an interesting guy" sort of thing. However, the chart gives her away.
The Moon will conjoin with Jupiter, the ruler of the Seventh House and also will sextile the Sun, Pluto and Mercury in the Seventh House. The Sun is close enough that I consider it casting its rays in the relationship house there. All of this goes to say that she can stay in contact with Roger, which she was clearly very nervous about. You will notice that her planets are the ones making the moves on Roger. I reminded her that she must approach him. Maybe she could ask him to meet her for coffee. (I live in the Northwest USA where the coffee revolution (lattes, etc) began so I "think coffee" now.)
This was a very interesting case. I say that because of the extreme shift in demeanor from the beginning of our conversation compared to the way it ended. The Moon in eight degrees of Libra is the fixed star Vindemiatrix, or the Star of Widowhood. Of course she was not literally widowed but it is one of those little goodies in charts that you grow to salivate over. It is such a huge clue. She must really be feeling abandoned.
I asked her about it and was greeted by a firestorm of emotion. She said that she was absolutely devastated when both of them were forced to leave the company. I was really surprised because she had been speaking relatively matter-of-factly about the situation at first. She said she had been crying her eyes out for days, and get this-her exact words-"I'm crying like someone has died."
I told her that she would get together with Roger but that she would have to make the first move. That is not the whole story though. The Moon's last aspect is one way to judge how the matter will end. The Moon will square Saturn retrograde and that is not a happy ending in any astrology book. The Tenth House is the fourth house from the seventh. The Fourth House is the final outcome house. Well, every house has its fourth house end of the matter outcome. Saturn co-rules the Tenth House of the outcome of this relationship. Saturn also closely squares the nodal axis in Aries-Libra. Uranus in the tenth house never bodes too well for riding off into the sunset either.
I told this woman that she and Roger could have their moment in the Sun but that it would never last. I thought this would have her reaching for the Kleenex for sure. I was wrong. She laid out a laundry list of flaws from which poor Roger suffered, eliminating him as a candidate for a forever sort of thing. Maybe this explains why Gemini is rising in this chart. Mercury, her ruler is retrograde in the Seventh House, indicating that she would change her mind about this fellow. Gemini can be a sign that has a short attention span when it comes to relationships. If a Scorpio starts crying, call 911. It's real. Gemini is a mutable sign and they dry their tears sometimes when the next guy comes along.
