It is important in this case to understand exactly what the client is asking. This woman is from Europe and her father still lives there. He was 94 years old at the time she asked. He had many health problems and was basically sent home from the hospital to die. However, we have heard this before but father was a tough old bird and previously always rallied around against all odds.
The woman's concern was basically about money. She and her husband were in a very bad financial situation. She was worried about how she would pay for the trip. Before we go poking around to see if the father will die within the next six months, this chart is a Ninth House question about making the trip. The Moon in the Ninth House is the chart's way to confirm that we are on the right track. Remember that when you have a chart in which you may be undecided about the proper house to use. The chart will often guide you.
Whenever someone asks a question about a certain period of time-like the one here-don't look for timing that is indicated by aspects between planets. The chart knows what is included in the question, no more, no less. This chart, consequently, is automatically looking only at the next six months.
The first thing to notice is that the Moon is Void of Course. That means it is making no applying aspects while it is still in its original sign. It is interesting that the sign is Taurus, the money sign, and that was the impetus for asking this question in the first place. The mere fact that the Moon is in the Ninth House tells me that she is headed for a trip to Europe.
The ascendant always rules the person asking the question. The planet that rules Virgo, Mercury, is her significator. It is Void of Course also. It is very close to the Sun. That position is combust meaning the planet's energies are burned up. It is indicating that her resources are low. The woman is also in poor health making the trip something of an ordeal for her.
Getting back to the Moon, it is conjoined with the fixed star, the Pleiades. Another name for this malefic is The Weeping Sisters. This is too much to ignore as the real answer to this question. She has three sisters and they would soon have something to cry about. That is enough evidence to tell the client that she would indeed be attending her Dad's funeral within six months. I wonder if we can get the date from this.
Her father is ruled by the Fourth House. Her Eighth House rules deaths in her circle. Mars rules her Eighth House and is in the father Fourth House. Mars is in the father sign of Capricorn. The father's Eighth House is the eighth from the fourth of the chart's or the Eleventh House. Moving to the Eleventh House finds the father planet, Saturn. Saturn is in detriment in Cancer and further weakened by retrograde motion. Saturn is also square the nodes, one in my client's Eighth House of death and loss. Follow all of that ring around the rosie game? This man is checking out.
Now follow this. Jupiter rules the Fourth House of her father. Jupiter is square to Saturn in the father's house of death. Planets in cardinal signs and suceedent houses measure to weeks. It does not work unless both planets agree in timing as they do here. We then subtract the lower degree planet from the higher degree planet. Jupiter is three degrees from Saturn, which means three weeks in this case.
The father passed away March 7, twenty-one days after this question was asked. Twenty-one days is exactly three weeks. (Count February 15 as day one.) You will notice that these two planets never actually make the exact square. You use the rule just the way that was demonstrated here. Some astrologers take issue with me on this rule because there is no applying square between the planets and that Saturn has pulled away from the aspect. Just apply the rules and see for yourself what works.
Closing note: One meaning of a Void of Course Moon is that nothing comes of the matter. We can see that this was not the case here. Some older writers claim that when the Moon is in its exaltation sign of Taurus that it does not behave like a Void Moon. I am doing a research study on this. If any astrologers have example charts with the Moon Void of Course in Taurus, Cancer, Sagittarius or Pisces AND you know the outcome, I would certainly appreciate that data from you.
