Horary Astrology

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Horary astrology answers specific questions from a chart cast for the date, time and place the question was received.

The column this month involves a question asked by my ex-husband. He was annoyingly skeptical about my chosen profession (astrology), but horary astrology specifically was really beyond the pale. (I'm glad I divorced that ignorant s.o.b.) When he asked me the question listed below, I vowed I would get the answer if it were the last thing I ever did. You will see to what lengths I went in order to prove that horary astrology really works!

Man asks: Where is my missing bid book?

This time I am using my hand-drawn horoscope for reasons that will become apparent. Yes, I did charts back in the Dark Ages before computers. If you use the chart data and calculate it on your computer, all the degrees are the same but the minutes are slightly off. However, this was the chart I was looking at.

My ex-husband was a building contractor. When a customer called, the first thing he did was to make very detailed and extensive measurements to see what the job required. From this information, he would submit a detailed bid. His bid book contained the raw data and some finished bids for several clients. You can quite understand his chagrin when the bid book turned up missing. His desperation is obvious from the fact that he actually asked me the horary question.

Lets turn our attention to the chart. The ascendant always rules the person asking the question. You may remember from past columns that 29 degrees rising is called a non-radical ascendant and deserves special consideration. I did not greet this with good humor because that is a "too late" degree and told me that this book would probably never be found. Not only is the ascendant in 29 degrees; it is in 29 degrees of Taurus in the same degree of the Pleiades, a malefic fixed star meaning there will be "something to cry about." (I was hoping that would not be me.) I did not care about the book at this point. I was locked into a philosophical war here.

The planet ruling the ascendant is his significator and there is Venus also in 29 degrees and exactly in square aspect to the ascendant. The Moon is always a significator in every horary chart. It is in the Second House. Why is that especially significant? You always want to see the chart reflecting the question. The Second House rules moveable objects and is used for most lost articles. I like to look at the Third House for missing books. Well, the Moon rules the Third House of books and is in the Second House of lost objects. It is in Gemini that as a sign also rules books. Isn't that beautiful?

The Moon's only applying aspect is the trine to Venus and it does complete the trine before the latter changes signs. If it could not have completed the aspect, that is called a refranation, which is an indication of the whole matter coming to naught. We have enough trouble here as it is.

The Moon rules the missing book and by sextile aspects his significator Venus. Is that enough to bring the two together again? Ordinarily that would be just what the astrologer ordered, but those 29 degrees were dampening my hopes. Sometimes when the Moon's last aspect is positive in an otherwise negative chart, it just means that things turn out okay in the long run even if the matter at hand is disappointing.

The last nail in the coffin involves the Moon's Nodes in 29 degrees. Planets and cusps in the nodal degree show catastrophes. I had to conclude that the bid book would never be found. Another rule in horary is that when one of the lights is above the earth and the other is below, the missing article will not be found but replaced. What sort of an answer is that? How much of a victory is it to say, "Sorry, the chart says that the bid book is gone forever." My inner demon raged inside and snarled, "I am going to figure out just exactly where the bid book was lost and what happened to it." And I did! But I lost an entire night's sleep before the answers came.

At the time this happened, I had an astrology classroom in my house. After everyone was asleep for the night, I went to my classroom and drew out this chart onto the blackboard. I sat back in one of the classroom chairs and I said to myself, "I am going to sit here until I have figured this out." I perused the Tenth and Sixth Houses because they were associated with work. I went around and around the chart. I kept returning to the Sixth House because the fixed star Vindemiatrix was there, also called the Star of Widowhood. I speculated on its possible meaning in this situation. Venus also squared the Arabic Parts of Find and Death in the Sixth House.

Along about 2:00 AM I probably slipped into an altered state from sleep deprivation. My attention focused on the proliferation of the number 29. I mused that I could certainly use the services of a numerologist. Finally I got up and went to the blackboard and wrote 2929, in other words, 29 repeated. It suddenly struck me that these were the first four digits of my telephone number, which was 292-9428. It was at this point that my intuition took a mighty leap. I walked back to my chair and closed my eyes. I said, "If I see the remainder of my phone number in this chart, I will have solved this mystery." I was almost afraid to look.

Now you know why I wanted you to see this hand-drawn chart. Look at the cusp of the Sixth House and note how I wrote the degrees and minutes. Read the numbers backwards. CLOSE ENOUGH! There it was, 4,2,8. My husband was in the habit of calling from phone booths to pick up messages from me at home: Moon in Gemini, his little "home" in the phone booth. He left the bid book in the phone booth.

I raced upstairs to the bedroom screaming like a maniac. "You left your bid book in the phone booth." To that my husband replied, "Oh my God1 You are right! I was in the phone booth when the convenience store I was just in was robbed. The robbers came out with guns drawn. My helper and I raced over there and in the excitement I drove off without the bid book. I'm going back there right now." I calmly answered (with only a touch of smug), "It is gone. You will never get it back."

At 4:00 AM he returned to confirm that I was right and with just a little help admitted that I was a bloody genius and that horary astrology really works!
