Mercury the trickster is up to his antics as usual. He represents all forms of communications, negotiations and agreements. It is one of the classical points of astrology in that when Mercury retrogrades or changes direction all hell breaks loose and the world of communications and agreements goes haywire. In essence, the machine breaks down. It becomes a bad machine for awhile and eventually like all good movie plots usually ends with some relief as life gets back to normal once again. Mercury was practically standing still on the day of the U.S. Presidential race in which both Gore and Bush claimed victory and we know the rest of the story. On November 19 we had our civic elections in which Sam Sullivan landed in the Mayor's seat. Or so it seems at least. There's a controversy surrounding the possible confusion of names on the ballot, namely Jim Green and James Green. It is said that the 4000 or so votes that went to James green could have put Jim green in office. On the story goes about some rancor and resentment, along with a phone call here and there. Yep, sounds like business as usual to me. It also sounds like a perfect retrograde Mercury story in which lies and accusations along with preposterous machinations such as the MLA pay raise fiasco in which many people suffered huge embarrassment and loss of face, not to mention the extreme anger of many people who could hardly comprehend what had happened. It's the reason that I get quickly bored with politics because it is so easy to see where the wind blows. The political scene is sickening and we wonder where the leaders are. Being the greatest country on the planet we are wounded and hurt by the astonishing revelations of misappropriations and mishandling and down right theft as we stagger into the 21 Century. We're in a rough patch and it will take diligence along with persistence to overcome the pressing problems that seem to multiply rather than diminish. It's all an illusion and then you die. When you get before the big guy, he asks: ‘what have you done with your time on the earth'? Imagine how hollow your response would seem when you say, ‘well I was a political junkie and I'… whap, next! Possibly another hit of lofty humor is that the politicians are saints in disguise because they remind us of the karma that we owe to each other. Certainly they are reflections of you and I. We could not be graced by their illuminated presence unless we deserved them. The bottom line is that if we want better leaders then we must come up in our standards of behavior otherwise how will the poor dears learn anything. Come on now children, behave and stop throwing sand at each other. In many ways great opportunities lie before us. Now more than ever before we must roll up our sleeves, quit our bickering and get on with the living and hopefully streamline how we get things done. Check out my new website www.macsstars.com.
