Venus Retrograde

May 18 to June 30, 2004

Now to June 30, Venus will travel in retrograde motion, backing up from 26 Gemini to 9 Gemini. Those of you (especially Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces folks) who have natal planets at these late degrees, will be highly affected.

Venus has retrograded in opposition to the lively Galactic Centre (26 Sag. 54), which is sure to add great intensity to the contemporary Venus "drawing in" experience. Venus represents survival issues and value associations, and the fueling dynamic by which we set about to get these essential needs met. (The sacred and the profane, love or sex - or love and sex, money, continuity and stability, issues of growing, thriving, living, possessing, or suffocating and dying; immersing or entrenching/enmeshing; real or facsimile; first hand or vicarious extensions).

Venus "harnesses" in it's highest capacity, Venus uses or is used in it's "lower realm" experience. Venus in Gemini represents how you "connect the dots" - within you and how you attempt to connect your "dots" to the next person, place or thing.

Venus retrograde may find you shifting the focus from what is coming at you, to what it does (or doesn't do) for you. Venus retrograde attracts key situations and key people of past lifetimes (and of this one too) with whom you have some significant karma/unfinished business (plus and minus). People can - and will - come at you from a myriad of directions.

Even though Venus in retrograde intensifies the dynamic of relating and relationship - it does so from a rather "singular" or self containment stance (a "whole" within a greater "whole" experience). No matter how involved you are, there can be a sense of isolation or aloneness within your experiencing.

Neptune (higher octave of Venus) is a dual archetype - the fish swimming in both directions. Among many things we could say about Neptune - it represents the "gods" of choice - whether you worship the light (the uplifting and the beautiful), or the dark (the addict's cycle of self undoing/unraveling). With Neptune turning retrograde at the same time as Venus turns retrograde, even more potent communing takes place multi dimensionally - on subtle and unseen levels. There is greater access to hidden forces and/or unseen agendas, and to the unleashing of inner unconscious dynamics. (Intuition, attunement, insights and revelations - or more projection, numbing, brainwashing, trance, shock or hysteria?) We will explore the sacredness of our personal truths, and we will explore versions of the truth also …stories, projections, and yes - lies - that we tell others and that we tell ourselves. What's fact, what's fiction?

The Venus retrograde attraction principle often translates into a feeling of being "hit on". The experience of this contemporary cycle may find us drawn toward irresistible delectables (past life legendary loves? - come hither, soul mate), or we can experience quite the opposite - a strong prey and predator component (finding yourself playing either side of the fence). The myriad of subtleties, projections and interpretations obviously makes relating, communications and the experiential realm extremely complex - ranging from "let the games begin, landmine relays, or can of worms" experiencing, to the accessing of the divine - creativity at it's best - the sourcing of the ultimate creative/creator principle in full regalia with it's glorious epiphanies - and to everything in between.

The Venus occultation (eclipse) on June 8 (at 17 Gemini 55) will fire up a great added dimension. The unseen, sensual and sensed or felt, that which is resonating, that which is being created/given life and form, will burst forth at some level - we are likely to witness hyperactive, overdrive, over exposure, or sensational mode. Special connections, special births, special dramas and moments unfolding around this time could fly off the Richter scale. Yes, hot stuff. (I would image there will be a lot of connecting and exchanging on the astral planes.) Reception signals - the pull and pulse of life - will be vibrating at an especially strong frequency. An occultation or eclipse manifests beginnings and/or endings - there could be "sudden death" - physical transitions are quite possible, while the more likely scenario is one of an instant and full stop (stock market crashes?). Take note, transiting moon will be in Pisces - a Neptunian activation yet again (forming a T-square to Venus/Sun opposition Pluto, conjuncting Uranus and opposing Jupiter too) which could dramatically affect money markets (investments - down the drains?) and create price extremes (aren't we already seeing some of this at the gas pumps?). This influence again suggests/underscores moving from unconscious, buried, hidden, subterranean, dreaming, aspiring, sensing etc. into conscious, present, acknowledged, known and elevated (and perhaps inflated).

In the sign of Gemini now, it's obvious there will be a message (or two) delivered. What you do with the message is another thing - this is where the gift of the cycle lies. A temporary interlude in your life, or a life altering new chapter, seek to honor and make productive use of that which is being generated and/or unleashed.

If this current Venus in Gemini retrograde dynamic is a challenging one, hopefully you will get to experience much on the perceived/conceptual level (Gemini) and save yourself the long road version of having to actually go through the motions (the physicality of experience). The best advice to cope with this current cycle? Learn how to be quick on the "uptake" (as in comprehension and understanding - the fast learner syndrome) and also how to be quick on the draw (knowing how to conduct the energy coming in and allow proper ventilation in order for it to flow and flow through) - to your best advantage and for the greater good of all.

For those more astrologically versed: Venus is ruled by Mercury, and Jupiter in Virgo is currently ruled by Mercury. Mercury will move through Taurus (mutual reception to Venus) and then move into Gemini (double scoring the Gemini dualities, etc) and lastly into a portion of Cancer (teaming up with Sun in Cancer) while retrograde (and continuing through to Virgo before Venus direct surpasses previous transversed territories. Additionally, Venus will oppose Pluto retrograde (this planetary influence has been effective since the end of April, which continues through the beginning of June in orb and with Venus finally surpassing Pluto r. the last week weeks of July). BML (mean motion as listed in Solar Fire - sorry I haven't checked the current true position) hovers around 22 Gemini (conjuncting retrograde Venus), and retrograde Neptune will trine Venus around the middle of June.
